Transitioning from Digistar Scripting to JavaScript
Transitioning from Digistar Scripting to JavaScript
Location: Main Exhibit Hall
Instructor: Joe Childers
Applicable to D5/D6 users
If you feel competent with writing Digistar scripts but have found yourself wanting to do more than that programming language allows, this class is for you! You will get a survey of the basics of the local
JavaScript plug-in for Digistar, such as variables, loops, if-then, and randomness. We’ll also learn the important task of getting JavaScript and Digistar to work together, so you can finally build those projects you couldn’t do with Digistar scripting alone. This class will also serve as preparation for Jacob’s Galloway’s class Going Further with Javascript, so you can take both of these classes even if you only know how to do Digistar programming when the conference begins.

Live Music Performance - Nouveau Papillon

Location: Caryl D. Philips Space Theater

Performers: Mark Bensette Aux Bois, Hildi Thelen, Kevin Healy

Prepare to embark on a dynamic journey of striking visualizations accompanied by live, New Age instrumental music from Nouveau Papillon.

Visionsphere’s portals will transport you through eleven immersive voyages:  you’ll witness angels gliding through the heavens, experience a panoramic exploration of deep caves, gaze upon fractal art and steampunk images, then enter the mystical realm of the wolf and other wildlife and nature indigenous to Arizona.  As each experience concludes, a porthole will appear to guide you to the next destination; as a new song begins, the visuals align with the spirit of the music being performed.

This innovative experience is presented by international recording artists, Nouveau Papillon, whose live performance in the planetarium will include music from their current and upcoming albums.  Mark Bensette Aux Bois on electric harp and 6 & 12-string acoustic/electric guitars and Hildi Thelen on Native American-style flutes create a unique presentation as the music is synchronized with the visual images on the dome.  Also adding to the ambiance, the perimeter of the dome has changing hues in accord with each selection.

This presentation was designed specifically for the Evans & Sutherland Digistar planetarium system, and programmed by Dr. Kevin Healy, Planetarium Director of MCC, and produced by the Nouveau Papillon design team, headed by Ed Capps.

Location: Caryl D. Philips Space Theater

Presenter: Stephanie Hylinski and Joe Childers

“Meet Patience!” is a live animal show in the dome demonstrating the Boonshoft Museum’s successful sloth encounter planetarium show.  You’ll learn what it took to get this idea off the ground and the special concerns and needs of animals and their handlers in a dome environment.  You’ll also see the whole show just as we present it to the public, including an up-close encounter with Patience at the end.

Board Bus for National Museum of the U.S. Air Force

1100 Spaatz Street

Dayton, OH 45431

937-255-3286

Tour the largest collection of military aircraft in the world inside five massive hangars.  Beginning with the pioneering aircraft of Dayton’s own Wright Brothers, you can see the progression of aviation technology through the wars of the 20th century and continuing to today’s stealth fighters, bombers and drones.  Also see missiles, the original training simulator for the Space Shuttle, each of the aircraft that have been used as “Air Force One” to transport the U.S. President, and more.  Bring walking shoes and empty your phone’s photo storage—it’s impossible to see everything in one day, but you’ll want to try!
